Aims
The curriculum for mathematics education aims to cultivate students' abilities and attitudes in the following areas:
- Critical thinking, creativity, conceptualization, inquiry, and mathematical reasoning.
- Applying mathematics to solve problems in daily life, mathematical contexts, or other scenarios.
- Communicating with others using mathematical language and expressing opinions clearly and logically.
- Using numbers, symbols, and other mathematical objects.
- Developing a sense of numbers, symbols, space, and measurement, as well as identifying structures and patterns.
- Maintaining a positive attitude towards learning mathematics and appreciating the aesthetics and cultural aspects of mathematics.
Curriculum
School-based curriculum is used for all mathematics classes from Secondary 1 to 6.
- Junior Form Mathematics (Secondary 1 to 3)
- Senior Form Mathematics (Secondary 4 to 6)
- Compulsory Part (Secondary 4 to 6)
- Extended Part: Module 1 (Secondary 4 to 6)
- Extended Part: Module 2 (Secondary 5 to 6)
Assessment
In addition to exams, quizzes are conducted at least 4 times per semester in each form.
Academic Activities
The Mathematics Department organizes the following activities:
- Mathematics Club
- Mathematics Competitions for Secondary 1 to 5
- Mathematics Puzzle Competitions (such as Rummikub, Rubik's Cube, T-puzzle, etc.)
External Competitions
Our school encourages students to participate in various external mathematics competitions, such as Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad (HKMO), Hong Kong Mathematical High Achievers Selection Contest, International Mathematical Olympiad Preliminary Selection Contest - Hong Kong, The True Light Girls’ Invitational Mathematics Contest, Competition on the Mathematics of Information, Hong Kong Hua Luo-geng Cup Mathematics Competition and etc.
Our students have won various awards in the abovementioned competitions. In particular, we have reached the finals of Hong Kong Mathematics Olympiad numerous times.
