Upholding Tradition, Embracing Innovation: A Harmonious Journey from West to East
Last July, the Heung To Middle School Choir journeyed to Vienna, the world’s music capital, to master the finer points of choral art. Under the guidance of professional mentors, our students didn't just learn technique; they learned to pour their hearts into every note. Performing "My Motherland and I" under foreign skies was a defining moment that set the stage for their next great chapter: Beijing.
Bridging Cultures: "Learning in the West, Sharing in the East"
This year, the choir brought that Viennese inspiration back to the East. As a flagship event for our 80th Anniversary, the Beijing Music Study Tour was more than an exchange—it was a journey of "Upholding Integrity and Innovating." Our students brought European vocal precision to the grand stages of our capital, nourishing their souls with the deep roots of Chinese culture.
Voices Echoing Through History: The Five Landmarks
From April 7 to 11, 2026, the choir embarked on a five-day residency in Beijing. Their voices echoed through the pulse of history at five iconic locations:
- Tiananmen Square & The Forbidden City
- The Great Wall
- Beihai Park
- The Bird’s Nest
Standing amidst these landmarks, our students engaged in a musical dialogue with the past, feeling the profound gravity and pride of our national heritage.
A Warm Welcome at Beijing No. 57 Middle School
The trip was full of surprises! Our hosts at Beijing No. 57 Middle School offered a world-class experience. We were moved by the powerful "Yellow River" overture performed by their Golden Sail Wind Orchestra and explored new horizons through:
- Science & Tech: Immersive 4D films at the Planetarium and star-gazing at the observatory.
- Innovation: Hands-on robotics and flight simulation courses.
- Friendship: A joint talent showcase where students from both cities bonded over shared passions.
Inspiration at the Central Conservatory of Music
Our choristers also received a "baptism of art" at the Central Conservatory of Music. Participating in masterclasses with renowned professors, they refined their vocal blending and expressive power. Attending a professional National Orchestra concert further deepened their appreciation for the unique "flavor" of Chinese folk music.
A New Movement for our 80th Year
This tour represents the very best of Heung To: inheriting the past while inspiring the future. By practicing the concept of "Learning from the West, Sharing in the East," our students have grown into cultural ambassadors, carrying the spirit of our 80th anniversary forward.
